How to Edit Actual Route Start and End Times Using Advanced Settings

This guide explains how to adjust the actual start and end times of an existing route using Advanced Route Time Editing, and how those changes affect scheduling, validations, and downstream calculations.

Updated today

Overview

Advanced Route Time Editing allows you to manually correct a route’s actual start and end date/time when it differs from the originally scheduled plan. These actual times are then used across Laminar Copilot for scheduling logic, driver hours, and asset availability.

Where to Find Advanced Route Time Editing

  • Open an existing route to launch the route edit drawer

  • In the drawer, expand the Advanced Settings toggle

  • If a route already has actual times set, this section will be automatically expanded

Fields You Can Edit

Within Advanced Settings, you can set the following four fields:

  • Actual Start Date

  • Actual Start Time

  • Actual End Date

  • Actual End Time

All route types support actual time editing, including:

  • SO1

  • SO2

  • RLB

  • INC

Required Field Rules (All-or-Nothing)

When setting actual route times:

  • If any one of the four fields is filled out, all four must be completed

  • Partial entries are not allowed

Time Validation Rules

Start Time Rules

When setting the actual start date/time:

  • It cannot be earlier than the originally scheduled start time

  • It cannot be more than 4 hours later than the originally scheduled start time

If violated, the user will see an inline UI message and an error upon saving.

End Time Rules

When setting the actual end date/time:

  • It cannot be earlier than the actual start date/time

  • It can be any amount of time after the actual start (no upper bound, except for route-type limits below)

Route Length Limits (SO1 & SO2 Only)

For certain route types, total route length is capped:

  • SO1: Maximum 14 hours

  • SO2: Maximum 38 hours

Updating Routes With Existing Actual Times

  • Routes with actual times already set can be edited again at any time

  • Changes overwrite the previous actual times

How Actual Route Times Affect Breakdown Tables

Once actual times are saved:

  • The route block updates visually in the Dynamic Breakdown tables

  • The displayed start time and end times reflects the updated actual start and end times

  • Driver hour calculations update automatically

  • Scheduled hours in breakdown tables are recalculated using actual times

These changes also appear consistently across all views in the Command Center.

Scheduling & Validation Impact

Once a route’s actual times are modified, all scheduling logic uses those times, including:

Driver Validations

  • Overlapping route conflicts

  • 60/70-hour limits

  • 10-hour reset requirements

  • Impact on future assigned routes

Asset Validations

  • Overlapping asset assignments

If conflicts are detected, existing driver or asset assignments may be invalidated.
