What Are Ride Along Routes?

Ride Along Routes allow a route to have a primary driver and a secondary driver (formerly called Ride Along Driver). The secondary driver can assist with the route and is now fully integrated into the app’s workflow, including visibility, notifications, and tracking.

Key Features

1. Visual Enhancements

  • Route visibility in Driver Breakdown table
Secondary drivers now see all Ride Along Routes assigned to them in their row of the Driver Breakdown table. Routes follow the same coloring as all other routes in the breakdown table, reflecting the secondary driver's route acceptance status. These routes also count toward the secondary driver’s working hours.

  • Naming updates
We've updated the label for the additional driver in Ride Along Routes to be "Secondary driver," so there is a clear differentiation between the two drivers driving in a Ride Along Route.

2. Notification Enhancements

  • Notify Drivers page updates
Ride Along Routes assigned to secondary drivers now appear in the Notify Drivers page. This ensures that secondary drivers can see all relevant assignments.

  • Text notifications for secondary drivers
Secondary drivers now receive all standard route texts:

    • Shift overview

    • 24-hour reminder

    • 2-hour reminder

Their responses to the 24-hour reminder are recorded, and if they decline the route, the AFP management team is notified.

  • Acceptance tracking
The Edit Drawer now includes an acceptance field for secondary drivers. Routes in the breakdown table reflect the driver’s acceptance status with the same color coding and icons as regular routes.

3. Audit & Error Tracking

  • Driver Rejection logic
If either the primary or secondary driver rejects a Ride Along Route via text, the route is marked with a driver rejection badge in the Breakdown table. Hovering over the badge shows which driver rejected the route. The Audit Panel will also display an alert indicating the rejection.

  • Invalidation logic
If either the primary or secondary driver becomes unavailable, the route is marked with an invalidation badge in the breakdown view. Hovering over the badge shows which driver is no longer available. The Audit Panel will also display an alert indicating the invalidation.

How do I add a secondary driver to a route?

You can add a secondary driver directly from the Edit Drawer:

  1. Click on the icon next to the Driver label in the Edit Drawer.

  2. This will display a Secondary Driver field where you can select the driver to add.

  3. Once a secondary driver is added, their acceptance field will also appear so you can track their route confirmation.

Pro Tips

  • Always check the Driver Breakdown table to confirm secondary driver assignments.

  • Use the Audit Panel to track any rejections or invalidated routes for better planning.
